The Apocalypse of Saint John (Revelations)
August 17th at 7 pm
Rev. Robert L. Schoenstene, M.A., S.S.L.
For the third in our Series of Summer Speakers, Reverend Robert Schoenstene spoke on the topic of The Apocalypse of Saint John, better known to many of us as the Book of Revelation. Some might think that Revelation reads more like a script from a Steven Spielberd movie rather than a book of the Bible. There are creatures with seven horns and seven eyes, the sun turning black, the moon loke blood, locusts, stars falling from the sky, and red dragons with seven heads and ten horns.
Did you know that the colors of these creatures as well as the numbers depicted in the book are actually symbolism used in the early church? These symbols were a language used in a secret club which served to protect both John and the early readers to some degree.
About Father Schoenstene:
Assistant Professor, Departments of Biblical Exegesis and Proclamation and Pre-Theology. D. Min., Theological Coordinator, U.S.M.L.
M.A. (Greek) Loyola University; S.S.L., Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome; Graduate study at Pontifical College Josephinum and Semitic studies at University of Wisconsin. Former Spiritual Director, Dean of Men. Former Associate Professor, Pontifical College, Josephinum. Member of Catholic Biblical Association, American Society of Papyrologists, and Association of Literary Scholars and Critics.
Father Schoenstene graduated from St. Celestine in 1960, was ordained in 1975, and has been in Seminary Work since 1981. He also celebrates the Sunday, 4:30 pm Mass at St. Celestine's.
Come hear Father Schoenstene's presentation on the Book of Revelations.

An Overview of the New Testament
July 20th at 7 pm
The New Testament is a collection of twenty seven books that are at the heart of the beliefs of the Catholic Church today. Through these stories we not only learn of the teachings of Jesus and the miracles He performed, but also the account of salvation history and the beginnings of the Christian movement.
By the way, do you know which gospel was the first one written? Do you know which gospel teaches us the Lord’s prayer? What was the predominant language used in the writings of the New Testament?
Can you find the book and verse that this quote comes from: “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work”?
About Father William Burton:
