St. Celestine Youth Ministry is the response of St. Celestine Parish to the needs of our young people and the sharing of the unique gifts that they bring to the larger community. The goals of our ministry program are to:
- Empower youth to live as disciples of Jesus in our world today.
- Draw youth to participate in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community.
- Foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
Our goals are accomplished by offering a variety of spiritual, service, and social activities.
Spiritual opportunities include retreats, faith discussion, and the opportunity to serve as lectors, musicians, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.
Social opportunities include outings, overnights, and much more.
Service opportunities are offered on a monthly.
Here at St. Celestine we are very fortunate to have many young people involved in our parish life. The youth of our parish are Altar Servers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, Cantors, Singers, and Musicians involved in enhancing our liturgies every week. There is a youth group and a junior high group that really believe they will make a difference in their world. These ministers of enthusiasm and energy help to enhance the vibrant parish that we have. The level of acceptance they feel here encourages their participation. Today and everyday let us be willing to tell them how important they are. Thank you for your continued support of our youth programs. Please call Kim McMillan - Youth Minister at 708-453-2555 or kim@stcelestineparish.org for more information.

Teen Group sponsors Cross Town Classic
The cross town classic is always a bragging rite event, for baseball fans of the Chicago Cubs or Chicago White Sox.
As a fund raiser, and fun raiser, the teens are planning to capitalize on this rivalry. Starting May 1st there will be empty water jugs in several places around the parish and school. These water jugs will be collecting change from the Sox and Cubs baseball fans of our parish. During our Cross Town Classic event we will share which team donated the most change to the teens fundraising for the National Catholic Youth Conference. The fans of that team will be the real “winners” to our youth group no matter which team wins the ball game.
On Sunday, June 28th, the teens who are planning on attending the NCYC in Kansas City, Missouri, in November, are sponsoring the Cross Town Classic to be held right here at our parish. All Cubs and Sox baseball fans are invited to attend and root for your favorite team.
We will watch the game together and share the camaraderie that a good game of baseball provides. Grilled hot dogs, popcorn and pop will be available for purchase. We are planning a raffle of Sox / Cubs items. Wear the color of your favorite team and let’s “Play Ball!”
THE TEENS ARE HAVING A CAR WASH

On Saturday, Juy 18th the Teen Group will be having a Car Wash. Bring your dirty car to the Saint Celestine Parking Lot between 8:30 am and 1:30 pm and leave with a clean one. The money raised at this car wash will help support our participation in the National Catholic Youth Conference in Kansas City in November.
CRAFT SHOW
The Teen Group at Saint Celestine Church sponsors

October 25th will be the date of our 17th ANNUAL CRAFT SHOW at Saint Celestine. Applications are available at the Pastoral Center. Spaces with a table are $25.00.
The show will run from 8:30 am to 1 pm in the gymnasium. If you would like an application or have questions please call Kim at 708-453-2555.
The TEEN are selling T-Shirts
Whether through supporting youth ministry, the athletics programs, funfair for our school or the reli- gious education program, it has been shown in many ways, St. Celestine has always been a parish that supports its youth. Many parishioners support our youth in the community as well. I know many attend plays and concerts at the local high schools because; they know how valuable it is to a community to have young people who express themselves through the arts.
For this reason, the teens have come up with a way for you to show your support. Whether you are attending the craft show, fun fair, an athletic event, a local concerts, or play this t-shirt is a great way to show the community, how St. Celestine Parish supports our youth.
T-shirts will be on sale for $15. We will also be taking orders for this great addition to your wardrobe!

Next year the JHYG will begin the 2009-2010 year in September.
Junior High Youth Group Experiences - The Past Year with the JHYG
As we gathered for our last meeting of the 2008-2009 year in JHYG, we were all surprised at how many different things were accomplished this past year.
The schedule for JHYG usually proceeds like this, each month we gather as a group and have a meeting that we use as the basis for deciding what we want to do for a community service project for the month. Then we plan what kind of fun we will also have that evening. So, getting together on a Friday night might involve making blankets for Project Linus and watching a movie.
The Rally in October was a favorite event of many of the junior high youth group. The guest speakers name was Mike Patin (Mrs. McMillan made us say his name while holding our nose to achieve the right sound). During this event we liked working together in groups, meeting new people and playing games. “My favorite game was Rock, Paper, Scissors” said by Jessica. “It was a nice way to start off our year in JHYG” said by Stephanie.
“The November Movie Night with Scavenger Hunt was one of my favorites” said Alex. “I liked the way we had to work as a team to figure out riddles about our church. It was a fun way to learn a few new things about the church".
In December we made cookies for the Night Ministry. “I like the idea of helping people” Taylor said. “It was also fun playing volleyball and learning the game Apples to Apples. We also liked eating cookie dough and the burnt cookies”.
In March we made blankets for Project Linus. “I had a blanket when I was little that I carried around so I know how nice it is to have a blanket” said one of the JHYG members. “I have made the blankets before for people in my family as gifts. We made one for my grandma and she really liked it so I know the people we made them for will like them too” said Rocco. “This was one of my favorite things we did”.
The last fun event we had was in April 2009. It was the Outdoor Scavenger Hunt. We had about 30 junior high group members attend for the scavenger hunt. They went out into the neighborhood with a paper clip and were instructed to trade at specific houses for something bigger as they found the items on their list. The funniest item brought back that evening was a shopping cart. There was an unusual mix of items brought back that evening. Having pizza at the end of the night was delicious.
Over the course of the year we: made blankets for Project Linus, cookies for the Night Ministry, study bags for Teen group members during Finals Week, Valentine Bags and cookies for the Homebound, collected cell phones for recycling and just had a lot of fun. We were all ready talking about some new ideas for next year. Next year the JHYG will begin the 2009-2010 year in September. If you are in junior high, 7th or 8th grade, or know someone in JH, let them know about our group. We are always open for new members.
